Goals and Stuff

by Chris on December 18, 2009

I’m somewhat embarrassed that I’ve gone an entire month without writing something here. Ironically, my last update was related to blog post update frequency. Shows how much I know…

2010 is going to offer up a lot of change and a lot of exciting things for me. For the first time ever, I think my biological clock is Nsync (like the boy band… get it…) with the Gregorian calendar. A New Year couldn’t come at a better time. So today I’m going to tell you a little about what I have up my sleeve. Journal-like… whatever… it’s my blog.

2009 was the year I quit my job, became a father, and started a business (or two? or three?). I began working from home while caring for my daughter. I started this blog to talk about that. Silly me; I haven’t even talked much about parenting here. I guess this blog has a bit of an identity crisis. In 2009… so did I. If you read the About Me section (that tab up above) than you know that I define myself as an insurance agent, an online consultant, a dad, and a husband. 2010 is going to be about those things.

So for 2010 my professional goals are to continue to grow my insurance agency, Atlanta Insurance Live! The videos will continue and I will continue my efforts to save people from the grips of bad service. Enter Agency Edge Marketing. I don’t have much to say about that yet as I’ve signed a NDA with myself, but I have a sick business plan cookin’ and if I shared it with you, I’d have to kill you. Lastly, I’m going to continue to customize small websites for folks (that other tab up there). Oh, and my business plate is full so I’ll put it in writing now… I’m not interested in any multi-level marketing.

My personal goals are straight forward: I want to be the best husband and father ever. If my wife is reading, I want her to know that I’m going to do everything possible to get us to where we’ve been talking about going. My little girl is growing like a weed and I’m looking forward to helping her take her first steps. I also want to read more books and start working out so I can become a beefcake.

So that’s it. A blog post about goals. What about you? What are you up to in 2010?

Thank you for reading!

  • I write down my goals in a 2010 goals booklet. It is always in my wallet and I review it regularly. It keeps me focused on what really matters to me.

    Enjoy and share,
    Ronny
  • Thanks Ronny, and I hope someone buys your booklet through my site. Next time you stop by, I hope you'll leave a little more insight...
  • Excellent post Chris!!

It is very refreshing to know other dads with the same heart for their families. Glad to call you a friend.
Look forward to monstrous things in 2010!!

Our personal goals this year are to buy a fat house on the East side of Oahu. 4 Br 3Ba with pool and a yard. Debt free, with a big savings accumulated, and our daughters private school paid for in a years advance.

Also, my wife and I want to teach our girls through example how to give back more to the community. We would love to give financial help to single mothers with kids, and really be a blessing to others.
So I got my hands full, :) and clearly relying on God to get us there.
Aloha from your brotha from anotha motha in Hawaii

  • I know if you stay focused you can do all of it. 2010 is gonna be HUGE. I know you've got some exciting things coming up and you've got my support all the way.

I look forward to achieving my goal of buying property on Kauai someday and taking my family over to Oahu to see what's shakin'.
  • Hey Chris,
Great post! As a new father that has gone through job changes in 2009, I really related to your story. I find it hard to balance life, work, family sometimes but it's a challenge I'm up for as being a husband and dad has brought me so much joy already.

I did want to share a thought with you if I may. You're talking about goals for this coming year and mentioned yours is to be "the best husband and father ever". However, one way of looking at goals I've always liked is "a dream with a plan and a deadline". For example, I too want to be the best husband and father I can be. But I've put together a specific goal of holding a family meeting with my wife (a plan) once a week for a least an hour (with a deadline). To me this makes me a better husband because I'm planning my family life with my wife and spending time alone face to face with her. It makes me a better father because I'm talking with her about plans for raising our child, how to handle issues we face etc.

That's not to sound critical of your goals but I'd like to encourage you to come up with some specific things you can do within your family that will make you the best husband and father ever.

Consider me a new reader though. I enjoyed the post and look forward to hearing about your 2010.

    Thanks!

  • I really appreciate you stopping by, reading, and commenting. Thanks for sharing some of your plans for the New year. Communication in a relationship is everyhitng. I think you've come up with a great way of staying in touch with your family. The pressures of parenting are gigantic and I'm glad for your family that you're figuring out ways to keep that machine running smoothly.

How old is your little one? Ours just turned five months. Great joy doesn't begin to describe the love that comes with a child.

Keep in touch and thanks again for stoppin' by!
  • Chris, you know I'm rooting you on! I'm excited to witness the growth of AIL and the birth of Agency Edge Marketing. Your laser focus is going to make a huge difference to your business and I wish you all the best! LOL @ your beefcake desires - you go boy!

So happy to have connected with you this year!
  • Likewise, it was great meeting up this year! I appreciate all the support and insight you've given me. And I will be a beefcake. Here's to a great 2010!
